I know this will probably sound like an excuse, but I've really been trying to do as much as I can, even though depression came back to me earlier this year.
I would have loved to do better and show more skills and progress, but my daily challenge was just getting out of bed, just getting through another day when more than anything I wish I had never existed.
You can ignore these lines, I'll understand, even though it's an illness, it's not a cold or flu, it's just a state of mind that's hard to be in.
Just wanted to report this to explain a rather sparse blog.
Mushroom animation
Mushroom animation production. Making of the mushroom was really quick and fun.
Also I edited mushroom animation into a YouTube short.
Cut out pirate animation and lipsink
Demo for pirate animation that we did in our class with Mr Morris.
Pirate animation demo short on YouTube.
Storyboard for pirats:
Preproduction proccess:
When I made the animation, there was already little time left before the end of term and so I drew the lip movements in Krita and added them during editing.
It was a mistake to draw the main character's mouth on paper, because of this I had to delete and add more drawn parts of the face and lips during the animation editing.
My animation tells the story of two pirates whose ship is wrecked at sea by a giant octopus. Both pirates sink, but before they sink, one pirate, whose name we don't know, reproaches the other for being in such a sad situation, but the pirate named Tom doesn't answer anymore, as he has already choked and started to go down. At the end, the first pirate, who is doing this little monologue, drowns.
Final version of my pirate animation.
Pixilation
First two storyboards, that I didn't use as final animation.
Photos were taken both at home and outdoors. For street photos I chose sunset time, because it looked more romantic and it was clear that the day ends for the heroes on this bench overlooking the city.
First draft video.
When I sat down to edit the video, I realised that I often had things going in the wrong order and had to fix it.
Here's my final result:
I think given the challenges of shooting outdoors, I did pretty well. I like the subject matter a lot, but it seems pretty sad right now because the socks are rejecting a person's feet to spend the day with sneakers.
My friend Lida filmed one of her animations at my apartment.
3D Max
Initially, I wanted to make assignments from the materials that were provided by the college, but then I found them incomprehensible and boring and decided to make something of my own.
I decided to make headphones, they seemed simple enough for my first model in 3d, although I later realised that wasn't quite true.
This is one of the videos I used to create the headphones. The video is in Russian, so it was easier for me to understand how to make the headphones.
My headphones are simpler as I made less detail and they look more angular.
I was very pleased to see that there are lots of examples on the internet that you can use to create 3D models.
Photos that I used as reference:
The room design is my second project. I took the living room in my parents' flat as a basis, and redesigned it to my taste.
First I created walls and light source in 3d max, then I found different models of interior items on websites with free and free access, and placed these models in the space created in 3d max.
Some elements of furniture or decor did not fit the size, and then I reduced or enlarged them. Sometimes an item had too many intricate details and in the process, I removed them. Also, I put some models together so that they would look better after rendering the work.
Next, I started looking for and creating different textures for the objects in the room. For the most part, it wasn't hard, although on the cushion I didn't have much success with the print, it's a bit uneven covering the surface of the cushion.
There are many simple details in the design of the room, especially the walls - they are rectangles on which texture has been applied, the same goes for the floor.
Sand animation
Storyboard:
The story is simple - four seasons and different elements, and at the end there is a volcanic eruption and everything burns down.
Sand animation. First draft, I filmed it without tripod, so the camera is shaking a lot. This sand animation is depicting elements as well as seasons of the year.
Final version of sand animation.
I changed the story and made it simpler, to be more precise, the new version has no plot, it's just the three elements - water, air and fire.
The sand was fun to work with, it's naughty and moves as it pleases, it creates a moment of surprise and keeps you relaxed. The downside is that the sand clogs up under the nails, often when you change the shape the result may not turn out the way you wanted.
I won't lie, I'm not really happy with the final result, I like the first version of the animation better, it has a story in it that is fun to watch.
But at the same time, I would like to point out that the quality of the execution has improved compared to last time.
Group project
Storyboard for old group project:
We bought a lot of clay for animation, but since the final work was made of paper, we had a lot of unused material left over. The clay came in handy in our animation this year, we used it for our heroine in the animation about chocolate during the apocalypse.
Last year we made a puppet for animation out of plasticine and wire, but it was very unstable and we had to completely change the idea and make paper animation of the characters.
The whole filming process was nerve-wracking and quick as we started quite late, but overall we had fun.
We did the design of the characters wrong and used a lot of colours, which were hard to cut out in AfterEffects afterwards.
Group project production.
Our execution plan, Alex made it. It lists all the responsibilities of each of the participants.
First concept sketches. Apocalyptic world.

Some old animations
Funny pictures from filming set.
Things that I did for filming.
Initially my job was to draw the sets for the animation shoot, but as the work progressed we realised this wasn't necessary and so I drew props and made a billboard for our animation.
Our groupmate posed for billboard commercial in animation we were making.
I printed out a picture of David, our classmate, and watercoloured an advertisement in the background - chocolate, the name of the chocolate and the slogan of the advertisement.
Shooting process.
Lida, my classmate, asked me to draw hearts for one of the moments in the cartoon, so I drew this kind of work in a sketchbook.
An animation I made a long time ago, but only just now put out to the public.
Some animation we made at workshop a year ago. We had Kosar, TJ and me in our team.
Lida threw down the first scene, with the background ready.
Final version
The poster for our film was designed and drawn by David.
